20 February 2004 - Ian Brown's 41st birthday
2004 - Ian Brown features in the movie 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'
Notes: Ian had a cameo role in the 2004 film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as a wizard, magically stirring his drink while reading Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time at the Leaky Cauldron. Blink and you'll miss him, the cameo was short but apparently Ian was on set in London for a couple of days for the filming and brought his family to the set.
The film's Mexican director, Alphonze Cuaron, is a friend of the Brown family (Ian's wife Fabiola). The idea was suggested by Alphonze at dinner with Ian and Fabiola.
On set he chatted with lead actor Daniel Radcliffe, who turned out to be a fan of Ian's and The Stone Roses too. Actor Daniel Jacob Radcliffe gets a mention in the sleeves notes too.
Ian: “Daniel is a great kid. He loves his music and that’s why I put him in the sleeve notes. “He’ll be pissing himself when he sees it.” “Every time I turned around he was there asking about the Roses, Oasis and music. I loved the Harry Potter thing. I got to be a movie star for a day. They gave me my own trailer and everything.”
2005 The Greatest hardback book sleeve includes a photo of the original 35mm Cine Film from the reel and a mention from Daniel too: "I acted a scene in a Harry Potter movie with one of the most important men in the history of British music, " is a sentence which very few people are able to say. Fortunately, I am one ofthe lucky ones. It was great to see that a guy who influenced a generation of bands could be so cool and easy to talk to. A top bloke!"
From 11 December 2004 Saturday - The Irsh Times Interview by Kevin Courtney: ...but the most memorable family outing in recent times was the most recent instalment in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The film's director, Alphonze Cuaron, is a good amigo of the Browns, and he cast Ian in a cameo role. For the boys, this was a true movie miracle. "Me eldest is too cool for Harry Potter, you know, baseball cap on sideways, too cool for Christmas. But as soon as he got in there he couldn't take his eyes off the screen." But just as he's not planning to revive the Stone Roses, Brown's not planning a career in cinema either. "I've got no ambitions to be an actor, no. I've had a few mad offers - I got an offer the other week, some French movie maker, but no. I enjoyed doing that for the laugh, but music's my thing."
30 September 2005 Friday 00:00 - The Independent : Ian Brown: You Ask The Questions. So, what did you learn from your time in Strangeways prison? And is Liam Gallagher just a pale imitation of you?
Why did you want to be in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and what spell did you cast to make your tea stir itself? JOANNE KAY, BRISTOL
I did it for a laugh. I've got no ambition to be a movie star. I know the director because my wife's Mexican, and the director's a Mexican called Alfonso Cuaron. Once, at dinner, he said that he had a part for me, so I asked my lads and they said, go for it. I think J K Rowling is brilliant - I love the story that she wrote the first book in a café when she was on the dole, and now she's richer than the Queen. As for the tea, I used my magical powers as a bohemian wizard!
03 October 2009 Saturday 00:07 - The Guardian Newspaper article, by Rich Pelley: You stir a cup of tea with a magic spoon at the beginning of Harry Potter And The Doodah Of Thingy. Would you make a good wizard? I'm a romantic wizard, a bohemian. A kid who's a projectionist came to a show and said, "I've got a present for you", and pulled out some frames from the actual film. I said, "Thanks, but you'd better put them back. I'm only in it for fucking three seconds." If you drop your popcorn you'll miss me. Ha!...

2004 - Processed Mash 10inch Vinyl U.K. Release
Processed Beats (Kasabian) vs. Waterfall (The Stone Roses)
Notes: Semi-official release. A mash up between The Stone Roses - Waterfall and Kasabian's - Processed Beats. I remember it being stocked in HMV for sale. A full colour picture disc with The Stone Roses band photo on one side. It was a photo of the band behind waterfall painted glass, Ian Brown was wearing a yellow t-shirt. The other side has the Kasabian logo and release details.
In an Q Magazine interview Ian Brown said: 6 Be An Original - I met the Kasabian lads the other week. Their hearts are in the right place, definitely, but their music is like a pale copy of everything they are into. They sound like a tribute act, all mouth, no trousers. They don't move me and that's because they're not original. They nicked their whole vibe off us, for starters.
May 2004 - Ian Brown hires backed by members of tribute band 'Fools Gold', Aberdeen
Notes: Rehearsals start with members of Stone Roses tribute band ''Fools Gold'' including Steve Davidson on Guitar & Frazer Clarke on Bass. With two of the members gone, the tribute band ended, vocalist Paul Mackie (Aged 32) went to form a Darkness tribute band called 'The Darkest'.
Unconfirmed * Audioweb drummer Robert 'Maxi' Maxfield joins the line up too.
From Manchester Evening News, 11 October 2004 10:27 by Paul Taylor: Love Fist. The foursome's music is already familiar to 28 million buyers of the video game Grand Theft Auto - Vice City. Before they were The Darkest, the band were Love Fist, providing four songs for the game and even appearing, in animated form, in one of the levels. Mackie's previous claim to fame was as the lead singer of Fool's Gold, a Stone Roses tribute band. That entailed imitating the somewhat wayward voice of Ian Brown. "I think Ian has got the most beautiful voice quality," Mackie says diplomatically. "Often it can be missed live, but on record there is something about the tone of his voice I find amazing." Mackie studied videos of the band, learned Brown's body language and even began speaking, around the house, in a Manchester accent. "I don't believe in doing it half-heartedly. I hate the tribute band that goes out and makes no effort because it kills off a really respectable business," he says. Fool's Gold had been started by guitarist Steve Davidson, who saw the Roses perform in Aberdeen and dedicated himself to ther music. So good were the band that, famously, they finally ended up backing the real Ian Brown. "Ian was wanting to play Roses tunes at his gigs because it hadn't been done for years. He heard that Fool's Gold were doing it right so he phoned us up, came up and did a few rehearsals in Aberdeen." Two members of Fool's Gold were then drafted in to play a set of old Roses songs which astonished the crowd at Brown's gig in Esher in July....''
30 September 2005 Friday 00:00 - The Independent: Ian Brown: You Ask The Questions: The Stone Roses split a decade ago, but people still whisper hopefully about them getting back together. Why do you think that is? PAUL RUDMAN, GATESHEAD The love for the Roses is massive, and it has grown through kids getting into their parents' records. We were fresh at that time, and I think that freshness has stayed, somehow. Plus, the English love nostalgia, don't they? I'm not complaining, like, it still feeds me. Tribute bands earn me about three grand a year off the Roses songs they play - that's a holiday to Thailand, that.

From 11 December 2004 Saturday - The Irsh Times Interview by Kevin Courtney: "I've not played them for eight years, and I felt they just needed dusting off," says Brown. "I'd never done Roses stuff along the way, because I wanted to establish meself as a music-maker in me own right, and now I feel like, I've done four solo albums, and I've achieved that, so I can take on the old songs now. I can go back, and they sound fresh. I wouldn't do them if they didn't sound fresh."

During the set Ian announces "We're the country set now, you know," "You weren't expecting to hear these songs, were you?"
Before Elizabeth My Dear Ian asks the crowd for silence, the crowd do not particapate and after the song Ian remarks 'You've got no soul'.
After Fools Gold Ian tells the audience "No more Roses stuff," Ian hugs his guitarists and then ushers them off stage, replacing them with a burly DJ who plays Ian's solo material.
Debut performance of Time Is My Everything here, althought not mentioned in any reviews.
Unconfirmed * Audioweb drummer Robert 'Maxi' Maxfield is in Ian's band.
From Uncut Magazine 13 May 2016, John Squire March 2006 Interview by Stephen Dalton: “Well, I heard some live versions of him doing the songs and they sounded awful, so y’know,” retorts Squire, aware that he’s now unfairly seen as the villain of the piece. “I don’t think he’s in a position to criticise. Anyway, I don’t want to get into a singing contest with the singer of The Stone Roses!”

Jim got a shout out in the sleeves notes for the 2005 The Greatest compilation.

08 October 2004 Friday 00:00 - The Independent, Andy Gill Interview: Ian Brown: Turn on, tune in, chill out. Despite the end of The Stone Roses, a jail term and a dislike of making money, Ian Brown has prospered, finds Andy Gill.
In a quiet suite of a swish hotel round the corner from his west-London home, Ian Brown lets out a chuckle: a gurgling, infectious vocal tickle that, like the man himself, seems entirely free of malice and artifice. We're talking about the previous night's BBC3 documentary about the business tribulations of his former band, The Stone Roses. You wouldn't have thought there'd be much for him to laugh about in such a catalogue of catastrophic disorganisation and financial disaster, but Brown can't help it when he recalls the appearance of the band's former manager Gareth Evans, a local hairdresser who steered the Roses into their disastrous contracts with the Jive and Geffen labels, then sued them for his one-third share of their gross earnings when they sacked him. Evans's performance is hilarious, an outrageous cartoon of managerial hyperbole in which he takes credit for the band's success, their style, their sound, their ideas, the guitarist John Squire's Pollock-esque cover paintings - just about everything, in fact, short of actually writing and recording the songs.
"When it came on, I thought I was gonna be, like, blazing by the end of it, but I was laughing," says Brown with a smile. "After all these years, there's no animosity, it's just really funny. I mean, in the first place, we got him in because he had the front, the bottle. He wasn't frightened of no one; he was full of himself - the perfect manager. He just got out of his depth when we got to a certain level. It was like he was able to get us there, but once we were there, he didn't know what to do."
The programme ends with Evans holding court at the golf course that he built with the proceeds of his time with the Roses, a fittingly banal conclusion for a career blessed, according to the band, with no discernible grasp of contemporary musical tastes or youth culture. "I've always said those first nine holes are mine, whenever I drive past it," chuckles Brown. "I thought about pouring barrels of oil on the putting greens, but then I thought, is it worth doing the time for? And no, he's not. So I haven't. But y'know, what goes around comes around, so he'll get his. I still feel that."...

Notes: From Uncut Magazine 13 May 2016, Ian Brown March 2006 Interview by Stephen Dalton: '' So you’ve noticed the tide turning in your favour? “Definitely. I started managing myself in October 2004, and since then it’s gone up and up. I think the goodwill of all the years is just catching up.

14 October 2004 Thursday - Academy, Glasgow
Notes: Solarized Tour.
From 11 December 2004 Saturday - The Irsh Times Interview by Kevin Courtney: Amid all the excitement about hearing the Roses' back catalogue revisited, is Brown worried that fickle fans will ignore the body of solo work that he has been building up over the past eight years? "No, me solo stuff goes down great as well, they go crazy if I drop F.E.A.R. or whatever it might be. The vibe doesn't change - they don't go crazy for just the Roses stuff, it's all the same. You know what, a lot of the kids that are into me now, they didn't even know the Roses. I mean, so many of them said they discovered me after me U.N.K.L.E. tune, Be There, or Dolphins Were Monkeys. They didn't know the Roses. Some of them were even apologising to me for not knowing the Roses. Some of the younger kids, I'm not being funny, but they're not really into The Stone Roses. They like Fool's Gold but they're not that into it. They prefer me solo stuff. The majority of the people who are into me records are between 16 and 24. They were like toddlers when the Roses came out, if they were even here."
15 October 2004 Friday - Academy, Glasgow * Doors Open: 19:00 * Ticket Price: £18.50
(incomplete set) Sally Cinnamon / Waterfall / She Bangs the Drums
Notes: Solarized Tour.
16 October 2004 Saturday 23:58 - The Guardian Newspaper article, by Helen Pidd:
Two out of five stars review. Academy, Glasgow. It's taken six long years of soloing stubbornness, but Ian Brown has finally bowed to the pressure. Having twigged that he'd be back to the gardening if he didn't quit the silliness and play some Stone Roses tracks, he has dusted off the back catalogue for the evening. Brown has always been a ropey singer, but tonight he doesn't so much carry a tune as cast it off like so much excess baggage. If his cunning plan is to ruin every Roses track by howling like a tone-deaf mongrel, it works. Sally Cinnamon, Waterfall and She Bangs the Drums are all massacred by his terrible wailing, so it's a relief when the second half of the set comprises trippier (and, crucially, less vocal-laden) tracks from his four solo albums.
Brown is still the only pop star with such extraordinary bone structure that you'd recognise his skull if it was dug up by the Time Team. Previously a faithful devotee of the Mancunian all-weather anorak, tonight he steps out in a red leather jacket and too-big combats he keeps having to sort out like a girl with a thong stuck up her bum. His behaviour is as baffling as ever. When not making alarming sex noises between songs, he stalks the stage like a constipated cowboy, performing a series of ridiculous mimes with the swagger of a man who believes he is performing Mr Ben-style transformations before our very eyes. Tonight, we get Brown the boxer, Brown the bodybuilder and the, ever classic, Brown on his bike. Another day at the office for a man who put the mad in "mad fer it".

Encore: I Wanna Be Adored / Lovebug / Keep What Ya Got (with Noel Gallagher) (Attempt) / Keep What Ya Got (with Noel Gallagher)
Encore2: Be There (with UNKLE) / REIGN (with UNKLE)
Encore3: Lovebug (accapella)
Notes: Solarized Tour. Noel Gallagher guests on Keep What Ya Got. The headlines read Noel was hit by a bottle thrown by fans. On the night there was several items thrown at Noel but only the pint cup hit him. If I remember correctly it was half full too. Noel left the stage but returned shortly after to perform the song.
A Universal Records spokesman contends: "Noel said somebody threw a half-pint of lager on him and it went all over his jacket and guitar. So he went off to give his jacket to a roadie. Ian went to see why Noel had stopped playing, so that's why he walked off as well."
There was 3 encores. The second encore took a while to set up, with the lights going down and the P.A. playing interlude music, for UNKLE. Ian had collabarated with UNKLE back in 1999 on the track Be There and more recently on REIGN, the latter also featured Mani on bass. UNNKLE performed live with Ian singing live. The third encore saw the curtains close and Ian return to the show singing an accapella version of Lovebug and thanking the audience. Mani was backstage at the show.
I was there with my dad. One of the best shows of our lives. The atmosphere was buzzing from start to end, it felt like how I imagined a Stone Roses to feel (8 years later both me and my dad would realise how a Stone Roses would be). This was the closest thing to the stone roses you could get at the time. Aziz totally blew us away, we would later see Aziz perform several solo shows from seeing this outstanding support slot. Sold Out Show.

Notes: Solarized Tour. I was there with my dad. One of the best shows of our lives. The atmosphere was buzzing. The show was sold out but ticket tout prices outside the show were more than double with the news of Noel performing on the previous night. Fizz, Coronation Street actress ?Fiona Brown?, attended the show and was in the que outside on the night.
Noel Gallagher guests on Keep What Ya Got. Noel was hit by a half full plastic pint cup of beer and the song was abandoned. Ian, the band and Noel returned to the stage to play the song though. There was 3 encores again. Once again there was a ten minute wait setting up for UNKLE, they performed with Ian singing live too. The third encore saw the curtains close and Ian return to the stage singing an accapella version of Lovebug and thanking the audience like the previous night. The CD-R bootleg was available from Manchester record store 'Clampdown Records' circa 2004.
From 11 December 2004 Saturday - The Irsh Times Interview by Kevin Courtney: "I was thinking, if only I had the knowledge then that I have now. I'm a stronger version of that person. I don't feel different, I feel the same, only stronger.'' Brown lives in his home town of Manchester with his wife, Fabiola, their four-and-a-half year old son, Emilio, and Ian's other two sons, 13-year-old Frankie and nine-year-old Casey. When he's not on tour, he likes to bring his children to Old Trafford to watch Man Utd in action. "I wear me referee's outfit permanently," laughs the soccer dad. He also brings the boys to see him play whenever he's doing a home gig...

Notes: From 11 December 2004 Saturday - The Irsh Times Interview by Kevin Courtney: Brown compares his current band, which includes the two guys out of Fool's Gold, to P-Funk, the 1970s psychedelic soul collective led by George Clinton. "We're just getting stronger and stronger. The more shows we play the stronger we get. I think we sound much more fluid than ever. We've put a lot of work into it, we've done a lot of practising, we're just improving, yeah."..."You know, at the beginning of the year, I did feel I was gonna get back all the goodwill I've put out over the past 15 years. And it's felt like that, and the shows have vindicated that. I think when you come out first, they love you and they put you up there, and then when you're up there, right, they pull you back down, but if you just keep doing your thing, keep going, eventually they just give up knocking you. It's like you get some respect for keeping on going, because they know you mean it."

Black with red laces with gold tip and IB gold buckle, red stripes and red heel addidas (written in white) on the patch, Ian on left show and Brown on the other written in red signature text, inside was yellow with black lyrics.
From 11 December 2004 Saturday - The Irsh Times Interview by Kevin Courtney: He's also been commissioned, along with The Beastie Boys, Missy Elliot and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, to design a new Adidas Superstar shell-toe trainer, which will be unveiled in New York in February.
From 2005 - The Greatest sleeve notes 'Misson. Stephen Kennedv. Kazuki and Fury — the Greatest Designers in the world! Gary Aspden, Mikey Cucitti , Carmela, Paola, Laura, Ruth and all at Adidas, Y3 Yamamoto — the Greatest trainers / clothes label in the world! Michael Koppelmann,Craig. Cat.Neil and all at Bathing Ape Japan / UK , Neighbourhood Tokyo — the world's Greatest clothing!'
From 2005 The Greatest booklet - "You know what, for me it's a super-privilege to be asked to design an Adidas shoe, because I'm someone who's always bought Adidas, so that's a super privilege". Collaboration Story: A true Adidas fan, Ian was the catalyst in the now legendary Adidas/Bathing Ape project and it was exciting to be able to work with him again on a great project as the Adidas Superstar anniversary celebration.
Design Rationale: Ian wanted a material that could stand the British rain and therefore came up with the idea of a waxed leather upper so that they will look good after a year. The stripes and heel tab are made of suede. To make it even more personal lyrics are placed across each sockliner. The heel strip has Ian Brown's name and the laces contain an oversized jewel.

encore: I Wanna Be Adored (with Mani)
Notes: Ian returns to the Empress Ballroom, this time with Mani. Ian continues singing Love Like A Fountain solo after the song ends, he also sings Dolphins Were Monkeys, Golden Gaze, Corpses and Lovebug solo after the songs end too.
I was there with my dad and it was my birthday. Sold out show, at least half of the crowd came down from Manchester. A brilliant show. Mani came on stage for the encore and played bass on I Wanna Be Adored, the crowd went crazy and the bass was booming. We picked up a Ian Brown black and white solarized poster outside the venue too.
Ini Kamoze 'Live A Little Love' lyrics include ''They say my heart, shares for too many / Hey, what do you say / They say my thoughts, worth no more than a penny / Hey, what do you say.''
Notes: From Uncut Magazine 13 May 2016, Ian Brown March 2006 Interview by Stephen Dalton: You played with Mani last year, and you began playing Roses songs live again recently. Have you ever seriously discussed reforming with the others? “No. Mani once asked me and I said I wouldn’t do it. That was about three years ago.” Have you had offers from promoters? “Yeah, there’s been serious offers. I got told, for 40 shows last year, five million pounds on the table. I’ve got three kids so that’s a serious thing to me, but then I look at it and think: every band reforms for the money… we weren’t ever in it for the money. It wouldn’t make me happier. I can only eat a meal a day. I’m not into flash cars; I’ve got a nice house.” John said he was planning to reform the Roses in an interview last year… “That’s right. I don’t know how he can say that without phoning me up; it seems a bit crazy. Why would he say that to the papers and not me? And remember, I was the last man standing – I never walked out.” Do you still love John? “I don’t love him. I used to love him. I think his decisions were made with a coked-up head so I don’t hold any bitterness ’cos I know, inside, he’s a nice guy.” Why not just forgive him, Ian? “I don’t think it’s up to me to forgive him, ’cos I’ve still got the knife in my back. He stabbed me in the back, but it was 10 years ago and I’ve had a right laugh since. I feel like I’ve been smiled upon. In the last nine years I’ve had total artistic freedom. I’ve worked with about 15 class musicians since the Roses and I love the freedom of that. This is my best way of doing it now.”''

I was there with my dad. Memories of buying fish and chips from a chippy near the venue. It was so big the two of us could not finish so we left it in the car for after the show, the car stank all the way home but we had such a good time we didn't mind. We picked up a Golden Gaze promo poster outside the venue too.

Broadcast: Reni and Mani Interview - BBC GMR
From Uncut Magazine 13 May 2016, BBCs Greater Manchester Radio had a quick chat with the pair at the show asking them about a roses reunion:
Reni: “Never say never… but it won’t be this year.” Mani: “I’d love to, just for the sheer joy of playing with this guy again.”
Reni: “I’m going to play with him, that’s guaranteed. I’m writing songs for me and him…” Mani: “Whether it be the Roses or not, we never know, but we’ve got to work together at some point in time.”

Mani: "No, I’m washing my hair."
Reni: "All I’m doing is getting people on Ian’s guestlist…"
Mani: "Yeah, that’s it. ‘Can you get us on Ian’s guestlist?’ I’m not in his band any more! What do you want from me? Do you want me to carry you in on a sedan chair like the Pope while pouring Crème De Menthe down your neck? Doubt it!"

Notes: Ian headlines the Other Stage. Entire was set was Broadcast on BBC TV. One of Ian's finest moments. Ian was wearing Olympic marathon runner Haile Gebrselassie's jacket.
Mani & Bobby from Primal Scream watched the set, they played (Primal Scream) on the same day too.
From BBC Interview 26 June 2005 - Glastonbury Festival, Primal Scream interview, Mani said 'I'm going to see Ian Brown...Ian Brown might invite me onstage to ruin one of my songs again'. Bobby said 'I'm going to see Ian Brown, because I love Ian Brown ' Mani added 'Absolutley, he's the king monkey'.
From 31 May 2008 Saturday 00:50 The Guardian Newspaper article, by Tim Jonze: What's your favourite festival memory? It's gotta be Glastonbury '05 for me. It's the biggest crowd I've played to and it was just before my greatest hits got released. The [Stone] Roses missed out on headlining Glastonbury in '95 when John broke his collarbone, so it was a great feeling to headline the Other Stage a decade later. Also, I was wearing Haile Gebrselassie's jacket, the Olympic marathon runner. I wanted an Ethiopian jacket for the show and couldn't find one. Then I discovered that the Olympic athletes get given three sets of kit and he had a spare one. So I was made up to be wearing that....Give us one final survival tip! Go in a Winnebago. When I did Glasto I wanted to make it special so I said to my tour manager, "get us a Winnebago." I knew it'd be about a grand or two grand a day, but let's make it a great day and if it's covered in mud we'll have somewhere to sit in. So I got there and there's a little caravanette there. I was like, "What the fuck's this?" and my tour manager said, "I got it cheap, it's only 300 quid." When my mates arrived they were all, "It's a bit George and Mildred, this, innit!?" Ha ha ha!
From 06 March 2009 - Uncut Magazine Interview with Ian Brown: Again, Michael Eavis the other day was saying that he had a deep, gut feeling that you weren’t done as a band. Yeah. That must be something he’s eaten. Yeah, obviously you’re bored to tears with the reunion chat… You know, I’ve been solo, and this is my eleventh year. It’s been 11 years now since I put ‘My Star’ out, the first single. That went straight in at five, first album went in at two and I’ve just not looked back since. I think I’ve played in 34 different countries since then, I’m about to start my sixth full studio album, I’ve just got back from Japan where last Thursday I played with an orchestra in the National Opera House. I just feel like this was my fate, you know what I mean? I used to feel The Roses was the thing, and the things I’ve done solo, and I’ve got bigger and bigger every year. I’ve just been going up, so I feel like that was my fate. I also prefer my own solo music to Roses’ music.

Notes: Ian Brown spoke to Q Magazine in 2005 regarding T-in The Park and Ian commented on Kasabian during the interview.
C Ste said: ''I remember this as I was there! King Tuts tent I think. Ian Brown was pissed off right from the start for some reason. Kept having a go at the sound guy to the right of the stage, not sure if he couldn't hear himself in his monitors or he had issues with his vocals but the sound was ok. Set was abruptly ended when he pushed all the monitors off the stage and attempted to push the sidestack but got stopped (you see this at the end of the video where it then cuts). After this Ian starts arguing with the soundman with fists thrown off to the side of the stage. The band leaves while this was going on and the crowd started pelting the stage with bottles/cups. After 5/10 mins, Ian Brown saunters back on stage to a mix of cheers/boos, jumps on the drums and starts playing some basic hi-hat beat whilst it rains plastic cups from the crowd. He walks off and that's it. He played again about 3/4 years later, same stage, and lasted the full set to a full tent. Security had to close the entrances and we almost never made it in until some saviour lifted a steel fence and let us in.''

June Tour Promo Posters noted 'Greatest Hits album released on 22nd August'
From the sleeve notes Ian Brown said: Track by track...
Forever And A Day - Recorded after most of 'Music of The Spheres' was in the bag, this song has been much improved through live performances. This version features a full band line up and extra lyrics. Featuring Maxi — Straight Outta Swinton, All Wins, No Draws, No Losses And Still...
Lovebug - Love Bug came about towards the end of the recording of 'Solarised' and has been much improved since becoming a firm live favourite. With extra lyrics, this version features a full band line up. "It takes mass panicipation to make everything correct." One for fellow and fellowess Love Bugs.
Return Of The Fishermen - An original idea by Inder Goldfinger (Percussive Holy Warrior - Lion amongst men), this song features the skills of Aziz Ibrahim and Tim Hutton to full effect. The original lyric is based on a song I wrote for 'The Guardian' for a general election special issue combined with the inspiration I felt from a group of Bangladeshi kids when posing for a picture with me and Noel on the 'Keep What Ya Got' promo film shoot. "I'm Jesus", "I'm Jesus" they shouted as they bounced around in front of the camera. Beats being Bobby Charlton! or Colin Bell!
All Ablaze - This song was written the day Pope John Paul Il died. To me all organised religions with their hierarchies have attempted to steal and sell God back to the people. Happy Days. All Ablaze... Frank James Spark Up!

A Night With Ian Brown (Official Autumn Tour Programme) Kicks Off November 2005 - Season 2005 is made available. The programme had photos, articles, tour staff checklist and even a Ian Brown related crossword too.
I was there with my dad. Ian was chatting with audience members (before the support slot) from behind the barrier at the side of the stage. I was too shy to ask for an autograph. During the support band's set, me and my dad had a chat with Aziz (who was in the audience). We had met him several times before at his solo shows. He said he would be playing with Ian and the soundcheck wasn't great for him and he hoped the levels (the volume of his guitar) would be ok. Fair to say after hearing the audience recording back, he wasn't loud enough. The Dome's Merchandise Stalls were selling Souvinier Programmes, T-Shirts and Vinyl Records from this tour and Solarized stock too.

Notes: Sold Out Show. The show was abandoned after 20 minutes after part of the floor in the venue began to sag. 2000 fans filled the venue which had only been open for a month. Organisers said that there was no chance of the floor collapsing but the venue was evacuated as a safety precaution. It is believed that the first five joists under the dance floor came out of their springs. Steve Forster, group operations director with Academy Music Group, commented: "Whilst nobody was in any danger, there was a possibility there would be some movement of the main floor". "So we had to make the decision to pull the show and that's what we did. We are speaking to Ian Brown to see if the gig can be rescheduled at the back end of their tour...If so, people will be given the opportunity to keep their tickets and go to the next concert, but if they can't, or if we can't rearrange it, they will definitely get their money back." Show was re-sceduled to 14 February 2006.

Notes: The Greatest Hits Tour. Ian opened up Elizabeth My Dear which was shortly followed by a crowd sing-a-long. ''We All Love Georgie Best'' is a football chant, in the style of The Beatles - Yellow Submarine with alternate lyrics. Paul Ryder, Happy Mondays Bass Player & Shaun Ryder's brother, joins Ian onstage on bass guitar. Aziz Ibrahim joins Ian onstage and plays his light up guitar. I don't think Aziz supported Ian at this show. The crowd & Ian bring back the 'Georgie Best' chant at the end of the set too. I was there with my dad. Sold Out Show, full of happy fans up for a party. I picked up a Tour Poster from outside the arena with all the tour dates on. Bez's band, formed with his current partner, Domino Bones were the support band. Magician Dynamo made an appearence onstage too before Ian came on, he was initially booed before Ian came on and offered support and asked for the audiences respect for the young magician. Not quite the target audience for a magic act.

Ian Brown is awarded with the Godlike Genius award. Big Arm/ex-Happy Mondays bass player Paul Ryder joined Ian onstage. Channel 4 Broadcast the Awards show on TV. They included Ian Brown's speech and partial broadcasts of F.E.A.R. & I Wanna Be Adored too.
Ian sang Redemption Song and just a chorus of Three Little Birds (Ian Brown cover)
From NME Article 16th February 2006 Ian Brown joined by Manchester legend. And there's a couple of surprises at his ShockWaves NME Awards Show...
Ian Brown was joined onstage by former Happy Mondays star Paul Ryder last night (February 15) at his first UK show of 2006. The former Stone Roses frontman performed three tracks with the bassist during the ShockWaves NME Awards 2006 concert at KOKO in London. Brown, who was wearing dark shades and a black sports top emblazoned with a number 10 logo on the back, introduced The Happy Mondays star midway through his 75 minute gig when he said: “Please put your hands together for one of Manchester’s soul music makers, Paul Ryder“.
The pair went on to perform ‘The Sweet Fantastic’, ‘Lovebug’ and ‘Time Is My Everything’ before Ryder left the stage. The bassist had earlier performed his own set with new band Big Arm. Throughout the show, Brown was on good form bantering with the crowd on the upper tier and at one point shouting: “It’s OK to move you know, you’re allowed to move up there. Are your feet nailed to the floor?” The only hiccup during the set was when he had to start hit single ‘Whispers’ from scratch twice.
Unlike his previous shows which have often been peppered with Stone Roses classics, the solo singer opted for songs from his own back catalogue including ‘Corpses’, ‘My Star’, ‘Keep What Ya Got’ and ‘Dolphins Were Monkeys’. But he surprised the crowd during the encore when he said: “Any special requests? Any Roses covers?”, before he went on to perform a stunning rendition of ‘I Am The Resurrection’. Brown then threw in another surprise when he covered Bob Marley‘s ‘Redemption Song’ and the chorus to ‘Three Little Birds’.
23 May 2006 09:41 - The Daily Mail article by Piers Hernu: He (Ian Brown) hates that it (Class A Drugs) is rife in the music industry. "I've met Pete Doherty. He's a lovely, talented lad. But I'd advise him to keep off Class-A drugs because it doesn't matter how big you are, they will take you down. 'I haven't had a pint since 1980. I think that would surprise people' "People start taking cocaine to give them extra confidence and energy but they end up needing it every time they go out. Six months later, they're a hollow shell. I've seen so many great lads dropping like flies around me. The vibe people give off when they're on it is not a love thing; it's like an icy wind."

2006 - John Squire sends Ian Brown a demo tape
March 2000 - Ian Brown appears in Front Magazine: This turnaround is grounded more in the need to escape the monotiny of tradition, then? “I find guitar music pretty boring, really. If you play Jimi Hendrix it’s pretty hard to find anyone else afterwards. I feel like I’ve worked with the greats – John Squire, whatever disagreements we’ve had, is one of the greatest guitarists from the UK, ever. And I think Aziz Ibrahim (current plectrum-picker for Brown) is as well. I think I’ve worked with the two greatest guitarists that we’ve got.”
23 May 2006 09:41 - The Daily Mail article by Piers Hernu: "He actually sent me a backing track a few weeks ago," says Brown, "but that's the only contact I've had with him since 1996 - apart from a packet of Maltesers he sent me with a note telling me that he still loved me and that he hoped everything was cool. We always used to buy each other a box of Maltesers at Christmas..." Brown's rift with his former best mate, with whom he spent the most creative and intense period of his life, clearly still affects him deeply. So would he rule out ever working with Squire again? "It's highly unlikely having not spoken to him for ten years. It's down to him to phone me, isn't it? When the Roses split up it was sink or swim. I ended up doing the butterfly backwards."
2006 - Ian Brown reveals that Reni recently guested on a forthcoming album of percussionists.
Notes: From Uncut Magazine 13 May 2016, Interview by Stephen Dalton: Ian revealed that Reni recently guested on a forthcoming album of percussionists, but Mani insists the drummer’s work rate remains slack. “He was still snoring last time I heard,” says the bass supremo. “He’s been working with Ged, who used to play percussion with Black Grape, so I’d be keen to hear that. I just wish Reni would get back on his drums. He always wanted to be out front, but he’s the best drummer in the world! The thing is, Reni wouldn’t want to do anything that didn’t either match or better what he’s done before.”

27 May 2006 Saturday - Hi:Fi Festival (North), Matfen Estate, Newcastle Upon Tyne
(Unconfirmed Set) I Wanna Be Adored / Made of Stone / I Am The Resurrection / F.E.A.R. / Three Little Birds (Bob Marley cover)
Notes: Terrible weather had struck the Matfen Hall and the festival closed one of the live areas just 24 hours before. The rain still kept falling throughout the festival. During the set crowd members threw a beer-can and coins onstage at Ian.
From NME Article 28th May 2006 Ian Brown, Maximo Park, DPT brave the elements. The first Hi:Fi North takes place in Newcastle. Ian Brown, Maximo Park and Dirty Pretty Things battled against the elements at the first Hi:Fi North Festival last night (May 27). Due to bad weather in the run-up to the festival, the event in the grounds of Matfen Hall near to Newcastle Upon Tyne also had to contend with the loss of one of its live areas just 24 hours before show time. That meant several band’s slots, including local acts The Motorettes and The Sound Explosion, were pulled. The new line up meant that yourcodenameis:milo opened up proceedings at the Live Stage however by the time Dirty Pretty Things came on the crowd still appeared below capacity. Despite the lack of numbers, torrential rain and heavy sleet, a set full of tracks from their debut album ‘Waterloo To Anywhere’ managed to keep the crowd warm. After their slot, singer Carl Barat told NME.COM that the weather “seemed to bring on the war spirit” and the rain provided “some of the most inspirational moments” of their set. Following on from Dirty Pretty Things were Maximo Park but just before they made it onto the Live Stage, singer Paul Smith admitted to NME.COM that he “had no idea what to expect from the crowd” before adding that “that’s why we (the band) do these festivals”. Fortunately for them the band were greeted by the biggest and most enthusiastic crowd of the day so far, the audience having noticeably swelled despite the band’s new early-evening slot. They stormed through tracks from ’A Certain Trigger’ as well as playing fan favourite ’A19’ and several new songs including ’By The Monument’. Headlining the festival was Ian Brown, who opened with ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, the first of three Stone Roses tracks that also included ‘Made of Stone’ and ‘I Am The Resurrection’. Brown was in fine form and even took to task someone in the audience when a coin and beer-can hit the stage. Asking the crowd to keep an eye on the time as it was going to cost him “£1000 every minute we do over 11pm”, Brown appeared to have ended his set with ‘F.E.A.R.’ and a warning to “stay off cocaine”. However he quickly returned with a cover of the Bob Marley classic ‘3 Little Birds’.
From 12 September 2005 - The Greatest - Carl Barat (The Libertines/Dirty Pretty Things) "The chiselled underdog is without doubt the cornerstone of an epoch—making scene inspiring many, including myself, with his un-letting creativity and originality... I met him once, and the only thing he said to me was 'pineapple juice ', but I think he might have been talking to the barman!"

Notes: From Uncut Magazine 13 May 2016, Ian Brown March 2006 Interview by Stephen Dalton: Your voice still gets criticised. Does that bother you? “It does, because I’m a singer and most singers are sensitive fuck-ups. I’m not a fuck-up, but I am sensitive. Especially if you do a show and you know you sounded great, then somebody says you sounded like you were shouting into a bucket. I’m more consistent – I don’t think I’ve sung badly in the last year. I know when I am out of tune. But who’s a great singer? James Brown’s great, but put him next to Pavarotti and he’s hopeless.”
